Say NO to the Saamis Solar Project – Letter

February 26, 2025

We need your help!

Good day MHURA member!

I am reaching out to you today to give a brief update about the Saamis Solar Project, and to request that you take a small action to let City Council know that many of their constituents are extremely concerned about this project, the money that all residents will be on the hook for, the lack of transparency and public consultation, and so much more!

Alberta Utilities Commission turned down MHURA’s request for intervenor status, not because we don’t have valid concerns, but because none of the Board own property adjacent to the project. Apparently the fact that we are all residents that are concerned about the use of our dollars on this project doesn’t count. We were told that the decision is up to our City Council.

So here is the action part…if you are concerned that the city has already spent $7 million dollars of our money on this project, and plan to spend, at the very minimum, another $120 million, plus conceivably another $600 million, again of our dollars, we need you to do one of 2 things, or both

 1. Open the “Public Say No to Saamis Letter”. Next, save a copy of the letter and upload it to the City of Medicine Hat’s website.

Here is the letter you need to download:

2 Or, Come to the Chamber of Commerce Home and Leisure Trade show and visit us at booth 308 to sign the MHURA Petition to ask council to STOP anything going forward that has to with the SSP. The trade Show is on March 7, 8 and 9.

MHURA is extremely concerned with the lack of transparency and accountability from Council, not only regarding the SSP, and this step is one of a multi-pronged approach to continue to hold Council accountable to their constituents.

Please share this with friends and families, and let’s get more people talking and get more members!!  Many voices WILL BE HEARD!

If you would like more information on the SSP, or anything else, please email us.
